Cloud Computing Services (cloud computing) enable customers to access various computing resources over the Internet. One of the computing resources offered by Cloud services is data storage or Cloud Object Storage.

This data storage service is offered in a package with other resources such as memory (RAM) and processor (CPU). However, sometimes these services are also offered as separate products. With this data storage service, a company can access its data from anywhere, and can add storage capacity quickly. One type of data storage service is Cloud Object Storage.

Cloud Object Storage can briefly be defined as data storage in an unstructured format (unstructured) in Cloud Computing services. The stored data can be of various types, from text to multimedia so that Object Storage is not the only format that can be used to store data in Cloud services. Another alternative is file storage and block storage.

The stored object is associated with a system of global unique identifiers (global unique identifier), as well as metadata. This global unique identifier is the address used to locate and locate the object, while metadata contains data that describes the data stored in the object (“data about data”). Metadata in Object Storage services is more comprehensive and flexible than File Storage and Block Storage.

Compared to other types of data storage services, Cloud Object Storage is less expensive, and more reliable. Because it is not tied to a hardware / virtual device, it is very easy to increase the storage capacity of Cloud Object Storage. Access to data stored in Cloud Object Storage is also more flexible, because it can be through APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), not tied to the operating system.

The drawback is that Cloud Object Storage is not suitable for storing data that is updated quickly all the time. While not always suitable for all situations, in reality Cloud Object Storage services are very useful for many types of important applications. So when should your app use Cloud Object Storage?

Archiving/storage

Cloud Object Storage services are suitable for data that is static in nature, usually read without changes (read-only), or even rarely accessed (Cold Storage). In this respect Cloud Object Storage can be compared to magnetic tape devices. Therefore, it is not surprising that one of the typical uses for Cloud Object Storage services is for data archiving and backups.

Multimedia

Another application of Cloud Object Storage is to store multimedia data (video, audio, images, etc.). Apart from web applications, video streaming and music streaming services can also benefit from services like this. In applications like this, the data is static, and the application only reads multimedia data without changes.

Big Data

Because it is designed to handle unstructured data, Cloud Object Storage is the most suitable service for applications that handle this kind of data, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Big Data Analytics. Applications that collect and collect large amounts of unstructured data, such as Internet of Things applications, can also benefit from Cloud Object Storage services.

Cloudeka offers Deka Box as a Public Cloud service for Object Storage (Cloud Object Storage). This Cloud Computing solution is very suitable for companies that have applications that require data storage of diverse and complex types, such as unstructured data.

This Deka Box service is one of the Public Cloud products offered by Lintasarta for your company’s data storage. In addition, there are other products such as Deka Vault for Cloud Backup and Disaster Recovery.
